What's a second chance? Ask Schumi

Not all of us get a second chance. But, I believe life is always about these chances. When Schumacher made his return to F1 at the age of 40, six years after his retirement people questioned the move. Everyone still is questioning his return saying bitter things like he is old, he cannot re-live his youth as he continues to be outdone by team-mate Rosberg. But one race answered all his critics to show that he enjoys what he does and that's why he is here - his passion for speed.

Schumacher's race in Montreal, the Canadian GP, was phenomenal. The rain filled race had lot of excitement to offer even though most of the race was behind the Safety Car that made a five time appearance. Even though Schumi started the grid from eighth, he capitalized on a Hamilton error to jump to fifth. Hamilton naturally counter-attacked but that attempt proved wrong as he lost one more position. And he thought he could outshine the seven time world champion?
McLaren gambled by putting Inters on Button and it worked. He was quickest in the field. Everyone followed suit but Mercedes was slow in taking that decision for Schumi. They had him come in at Lap 18 but the skies opened up and rained in Lap 20. So he had to make another pit stop and change to wets. A strategy setback. By Lap 21 he was P12. The race was red-flagged in Lap 25.

A restart and a line-up behind safety car later, a racy Schumacher set his sights on sixth placed Webber. He breathed down Webber's neck forcing him into an error that saw Webber run wide and lose his position to Schumi. Schumi wasn't done. He set the fastest lap of the race in Lap 45 and easily drove past 4th placed Heidfeld. (P5 DiResta was involved in a race incident and had visited the pits).

In Lap 46, the race order was: 1.Vettel, 2.Kobayashi, 3.Massa, 4.Schumacher, 5.Heidfeld. Soon Schumacher came up to the back of the battle for second and third place between Kobayashi and Massa. The Japanese driver ran wide in Turn 5, covered the line and slowed Felipe Massa down to prevent him overtaking and then Michael Schumacher swept by them both. From P4 to P2 in one easy move.It was totally awesome. Reminded me of the iconic move that Hakkinen made on Zonta and Schumacher in Spa 2000.

Schumi was in 2nd place for a few laps but the bitter truth about the pace of the Mercedes was exposed as Button and soon Webber swept past him to deny the podium. If it weren't for multiple safety car visits and a poor tire strategy by Mercedes, Schumi might've stepped onto the podium. This was one sensational race from the Master in Wets and reminded everyone the Schumacher of the past. I sincerely hope he wins races in 2012 and shuts the critics for good.
